William Wyler and World War II

Of the three Oscars presented to director William Wyler, two were for wartime dramas, screened this weekend at the Redford Theatre in tribute to Wyler and the everyday soldiers and their families whose lives he represented on film.

In Mrs. Miniver, Greer Garson’s performance as a middle class British wife and mother during World War II highlights Wyler’s still-moving wartime drama which Winston Churchill called a major propaganda tool in getting Americans more invested in the war.
