Classic Cartoon Festival—Fleischer Studio Madness!

Ann Arbor-based Animation expert Steve Stanchfield returns to host his annual collection of rare and familiar cartoon gems, many in original 16mm and 35mm film prints.

The evening program starts with a handful of rare cartoon shorts in 35mm. But the focus of the program will be on pioneering animators Max and Dave Fleischer, whose manic studio gave us Betty Boop, Popeye, Bimbo, and Koko the Klown. More Superman cartoons—all from recent restorations—will highlight the program, along with rare films Max Fleischer made late in his career for the Jam Handy studios in Detroit.
